Super Tuesday for Kids
(for young and old adults too!)
Super Tuesday commonly refers to the Tuesday when the greatest
number of states hold primary
elections or caucuses
to select delegates. These delegates
vote on the presidential candidates for their party at their national
conventions. More delegates
can be won on Super Tuesday than on any other single day of the
election calendar.
In 2008 Super Tuesday is February 5th; Twenty-four (24) states
will hold primaries
or caucuses on this
date. With fifty-two (52) percent of all pledged Democratic Party
delegates and Forty-one
(41) percent of the total Republican Party delegates
at stake, Super Tuesday can also be referred to as the day that
determines the party's slate of candidates
(but not always- for information about why delegates matter click
here.)
