The Alaska
Home Educators Alliance (AHEA) is working diligently to provide basic
information to candidates, homeschoolers, and home-school allies. AHEA will not endorse a candidate. We encourage all homeschoolers to develop a relationship with their legislators and legislative candidates. A relationship with candidates will further an appreciation of homeschoolers and the alternatives of their choice (independent, in-district programs or statewide programs).
A
questionnaire covering a range of topics important to all homeschool families - affiliated or independent, was mailed to all candidates
running for state office in Alaska (view/print AHEA's homeschool questionnaire in pdf format here). We are happy to be
providing you a summary of the responses. Click here.
With an interest in thoughts of the candidates on other general educational issues, AHEA added another questionnaire on Educational Improvement Plans (view/print the Educational Improvement Plans questionnaire in pdf format here). The responses can be viewed by clicking here.
If a
candidate you are interested in has not filled out a questionnaire,
please print a copy and bring it to them (or send the candidate our website
links.) Click here to see contact information for the 2008 candidates. When contacting the candidates, remind them that AHEA does not endorse a candidate or contribute to any campaigns. This should eliminate any ethics concerns. Ask them to reply via email to us. Even if they decline answering the survey, this gives you the opportunity to introduce yourself to them...and them to your homeschooling choice.
If you have
any questions about how the questionnaire was developed, would like to
make comments, or if you have questions you would like us to ask when we
survey the candidates again (possibly late September/early October), please contact us via
email AHEA@AHEAnow.org
Please enjoy and use the responses as a method to educate
yourself about the candidate's beliefs on home education.
Thank
you,
The AHEA Board
