01 "An Act establishing truancy officer positions for school districts."
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:
03 * Section 1. AS 14.30 is amended by adding a new section to read:
04 Sec. 14.30.035. Truancy officers. (a) The department shall employ at least
05 one truancy officer for each school district with an ADM of at least 1,000 students,
06 excluding students enrolled full time in a correspondence program, to enforce
07 compulsory school attendance requirements under AS 14.30.010.
08 (b) A truancy officer shall cooperate with local and state law enforcement
09 agencies and may petition a court of competent jurisdiction for an arrest warrant to
10 bring a person violating AS 14.30.010 before the court for trial and sentencing.
11 (c) In this section,
12 (1) "ADM" has the meaning given in AS 14.17.990;
13 (2) "district" has the meaning given in AS 14.17.990.
